Web Site Guidelines

Unitarian Universalist Church Web Site
Purpose, Guidelines, and Procedures
Adopted Oct. 23, 2000

Purpose/Goal of the UU Web Site

The UUC web site will serve three primary purposes:

  1. To reach out to the larger community
  2. To inform interested people about Unitarian Universalism and about our congregation
  3. To invite people to visit and participate

A secondary purpose of the web site is to be a communications tool among the members of our congregation.

Audience
The audience consists of: individuals who are interested in learning more about Unitarian Universalism and/or our congregation; Unitarian Universalists who may be planning to visit or relocate from other areas; UUC members; former members and friends; and affiliate organizations.

Guidelines for privacy of members and others

  1. Individuals' e-mail addresses will not be posted on the web site (unless specifically requested by that individual).
  2. Individuals' phone numbers will not be posted (unless specifically requested by that individual).
  3. The list of Board Trustees and Committee Chairs will not be posted.
  4. The names of individuals in photos will not be listed. If an individual is prominently featured in a photo, permission will be asked of that individual before posting the photo.
  5. Photos of children will not be posted without permission.
  6. The "Under Our Roof" portion of the church newsletter will not be posted.

General procedures

  1. The Web site is not to be considered a primary historical archive for documents. Newsletters will be kept on the web site for no more than one year. Sermons to keep on the web site will be selected in consultation with the minister.
  2. Decisions regarding content:
  • It is possible that certain portions of the web site could be created and maintained by various persons or groups (such as the Youth Group), but only the webmaster will have the ability to post material directly to the Web. The Web Site Committee will provide an ongoing role of supervision, evaluation, proofing, and decision-making.
  • Decisions regarding content will take into account the primary purpose of the web site as well as available time and skill level of the volunteer webmaster.

Project scope
The homepage will open the site with a logical and easily navigable set of topics. On the homepage will also appear a short a paragraph describing the church and giving a feel for its congregation, general attitude, etc. Contact information and service times will appear prominently on the homepage. The main sections of the web site will appear on a banner on every page of the site for easy navigation from one section to another.

Web site committee
The Web site committee will be made up of the webmaster, the Public Relations Chair, the minister, and the webmaster of the Purdue campus group. The Board will be kept informed of any major changes or issues. Procedures for posting the church newsletter and calendar will be developed in consultation with the church secretary and newsletter editors. Appropriate committee chairs will be consulted regarding the posting of content related to their area.
